Obituary of Michael David Spencer
Age 61 at the time of his passing, was a self-professed religion nerd. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Trevecca Nazarene University with a double major in religion and behavioural science and a minor in philosophy. He liked to joke that it was the best education he could have ever hoped for that he never put to use professionally. He ultimately worked in banking, finance and as a Certified Public Accountant. Upon his retirement, he spent his time learning to become an artist and having the time of his life, doing something he loved. In addition to his art, and over the course of his life, he spent a great deal of time counseling and working on a personal level with troubled youth and others in need of a willing ear and unconditional love and acceptance. He often commented that he was able to put his college education to work by ministering in unconventional ways. His final years were some of his most fulfilling, and really what more could one ask for? Michael is survived by his life partner of 28-1/2 years, David Foster, of Nashville; a sister, Janet Jackson, of Glasgow KY; a brother, James Spencer, in Beaver Dam KY; along with numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives. He was also surrounded by a wealth of friends and other loved ones who will miss him dearly. Michael's family have opted to hold a private memorial ceremony, but appreciate the good wishes, love and support from extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, Michael's partner David has asked that donations be made, in Michael's name, to Nashville CARES, whose mission is to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Middle Tennessee (http://www.nashvillecares.org/donate).
