Michael Young

Obituary of Michael G. Young

Michael Gregory Young of Hendersonville, TN peacefully passed away in the early morning on July 27 as his beloved wife, mother, and two children sat by his side. Mike is survived by his wife Cheryl Boswell Young, children Brian Young (Olga) and Diana Young, parents Thomas and Barbara Young, and sister Lisa Young Miller (Don). Mike was born on June 27, 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia to Tom and Barbara Young. He attended Baylor University in Texas where he received a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Business/Journalism in 1982 He married Cheryl Young, also a Baylor graduate in July of 1983. In the 1980s-90s Mike was a Project Manager at AGFA/Compugraphic in Andover, Massachusetts, and then worked in sales for Tom Young & Associates. In the mid-1990s he worked for Innlink in Hendersonville, where he went on to become the President of Innlink. For the last 8 years, Mike has been a Project and Program Manager at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in the IT department. Mike was a very active part of several service organizations and loved to lend a hand in times of need. He often participated with his Sunday school class in First United Methodist Church’s Room in the Inn. He was Chairman and Head of Logistics of the Hendersonville Relay for Life for several years. He participated in the Appalachia Service Project. He also spent time rebuilding homes in New Orleans and in the Nashville area, providing flood relief to families. Mike’s love for life was contagious. In the summers, you could find him with his family on the beach in Oak Island, NC, where he loved to body surf, play bocce, golf, and photograph each happy moment. In Nashville, his love of music carried him and his wife and friends to rock and blues concerts. When he wasn’t at the beach, honing his photography skills, or enjoying music, he was spending time building things. Mike loved to build. As his children grew up, he built lego tables, doll houses, bunk beds, tree houses and attic forts. For his parents, sister, and nieces and nephews he built porches and Adirondack chairs. With friends, he built award-winning Relay for Life booths and turned wood. For he and his wife, he built a tool shed that appears like something out of Home and Garden Magazine or a Thomas Kinkade painting. He recently renovated his kitchen and living room, masterfully, and would have kept going had time allowed. But Mike didn’t just build toys and kitchens. He had the uncanny ability to build relationships and communities. With his children, he played, read books, goofed off, and guided. With his wife, he nurtured and romanced. With his friends and family, he listened and laughed. His easy-going nature, his humor, and his kind heart were part of his great ability to connect with people and to connect them to each other. Please join us for a memorial service on August 21st (Sunday) from 6-8 pm at the Rock Castle pavilion, 139 Rock Castle Lane, Hendersonville Tennessee.
