Obituary of Timothy Paul Cotton

Timothy P. Cotton, 64 years old, died January 26, 2016 from complications related to kidney cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Thomas R. Sr. & Clarine A. Cotton; brothers, Charles L. and William G. Survived by brothers, Thomas (Joyce), Gene (Marnie), and James; sisters, Linda Guterman, Cathy (David) Reisch, Sandra “Sam” (Karen MacKay); many nieces, nephews and friends, including best friends, Micheal (Patty Slade) Klamann, and Dr. Stanley Bodner (Daniel Luther), and many Friends of Bill who celebrate his life. Tim worked in the music industry for 45 years as a road manager and driver for such artists as Gene Cotton, Andre Crouch, The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Hemphill Brothers Coach Co., Alan Jackson, Brenda Lee, Loretta Lynn, Lonestar, Kathy Mattea, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, Oak Ridge Boys, Collin Raye, Dan Seals, Ricky Skaggs, Carlo Sound, Spectrum Sound, Stage Call Corp., Starfleet Transportation, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette and many others. He was a Licensed EMT, completed training as an HIV/AIDS volunteer and attended a Clinical Management Course from Vanderbilt University and the East Central AIDS Education and Training Center, was a 1991 Honoree for the Mary Catherine Strobel Award as Volunteer of The Year from Nashville CARES, and a 1993 recipient of a Nashville CARES award for immediately alleviating suffering with housing, utility assistance, food bank supplies, and other emergency needs in addition to awareness campaigns and fund raising efforts. Number “5 of 9”, known as “the ole’ road hog” and also known as “mom’s favorite”, Tim was a passionate advocate for the homeless and anyone in need – he never met a stranger. The family thanks the nurses, staff and Dr. Willis of St. Thomas-Midtown Hospital and Gentiva Hospice, for their gentle care of Tim during his recent illness.
