Robert Kane, Jr

Obituary of Robert Edward Kane, Jr

Robert “Bob” E. Kane, Jr. 73, of Indianapolis, passed away January 5, 2021, in Nashville, Tennessee. Bob was born April 27, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Cleopha Kane. He attended Bloomington High School and went on to graduate from Indiana University School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in Business. In Bob’s early years, he enjoyed Cub Scouts, Little League Baseball, and playing with his buddies. In his teenage years, he loved cars! Specifically, he loved hot rods and fast cars. This was a passion he shared with his late wife, Judy Kane. In April of 1967, Bob joined the Army and successfully completed the Airborne Sensor Specialist program at Fort Huachuca in Arizona. He was deployed and served in the Vietnam War. In 1968, he received the Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service while serving as a technical advisor with the 131st Aviation Company, 1st Aviation Brigade. Bob began working for the State of Indiana Workforce Development in March 1975. In 1980, he received an award for outstanding achievement and meritorious service from the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security, Indiana Chapter. Bob retired from the State in April 2009. Anyone who knows Bob, knows his love for the outdoors. He loved gardening, fishing, boating and skiing. His love for the ocean and desire for the beach life, led him to move to Pascagoula, Mississippi. Although it was a short time, he finally got to live by the ocean. It would be amiss, if we did not mention his love for animals. He grew up with dogs and cherished their loyal companionship throughout his life. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of his three cats Houdini, Roy and Candy. From a young age and spending many years in parochial school, he developed a love for God. Later, in life, he dedicated his life to Jehovah God and was baptized on February 17, 1980 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Throughout the last 40 years, Bob served as elder and full-time minister, serving others in the congregation and his neighbors spreading the good news and helping others to, not only get to know God, but to dedicate their lives to Him. One of his last acts of service was in November of 2020 when he helped his son and daughter-in-law to stuff magazines and letters in envelopes for a special worldwide campaign teaching other about God’s Kingdom. At the time of his passing, Bob was surrounded by his three children, Leslie, Christina and Tony. He taught his kids to love, forgive and never stop trying. His legacy lives on in his children. Bob was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Bob is survived by his three children, Leslie Cole, Christina (Peter Clemens) Kane, and Robert “Tony” (Kelly) Kane. He was a proud grandparent of four granddaughters, Michal Duncan, Taylor Miller, Megan Roberts and Morgan Roberts. He was a great grandfather to Zoe, Ellie, Maverick, Oliver and Jude. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia Kane. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Kane; and his parents.
