
Obituary of Raymond B. Washburn
Raymond B. Washburn, Jr., 78, of Hendersonville, TN, passed away on Saturday, October 9 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Ray was born on January 31, 1943 in Detroit, MI to the late Jessie Krynski and Raymond B. Washburn. After serving in the United States Navy, he earned his Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering and Masters of Business Administration degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Ray’s vibrant career included working as a registered professional engineer including leadership positions within the Department of the Army’s Defense Intelligence Agency located at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL where he earned the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.
In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon Anne Perttunen Washburn.
He is survived by his wife Helen Gail Sorrells Washburn and his children Clayton (Carol) Washburn of Brentwood, TN; Anne Washburn of Nashville, TN; and Rachel (Bill) Washburn Smith of Hendersonville, TN; his grandchildren Chandler, Clay and Carrington Washburn and Brennen and Ava Smith; his brother Bill Washburn of Palm Springs, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
